"My name is Harvey Milk and I'm here to recruit you." With those words Harvey Milk propelled a movement that led to the changes we now celebrate as a community and a nation. On November 27, 1978, only hours after the assassinations of Milk and San Francisco Mayor George Moscone, thousands gathered on the steps of City Hall for a candlelight vigil where the newly formed San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus sang in tribute, as the nation looked on. Two years later, the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, the nation’s fourth-oldest gay-identified chorus, was established. For 35 years, through music that has made audiences laugh, cry, feel, and take action, PGMC has been at the forefront of the struggle for equal rights.

Celebrate the Portland premiere of Broadway composer Andrew Lippa’s
I am Harvey Milk, alongside a brand new commission by Portland composer Scot Crandal commemorating PGMC’s 35th season. PGMC Artistic Director Bob Mensel calls this concert, “…the Soul of our season-long celebration.” This is an event you do not want to miss!
