Deck the halls and dim the lights: the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus is throwing a swing-era holiday party, and everyone’s on the list. Cool Yule takes its name from the Louis Armstrong classic and its attitude from the golden age of holiday cool — Kay Thompson’s delightfully unhinged “Jingle Bells,” a velvet-smooth “White Christmas,” and a heartfelt “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” for good measure. It’s mistletoe with a wink, nostalgia with a backbeat, and 140 voices swinging like the holidays depend on it. Naughty or nice, you’re invited. Santa’s got a setlist.

Cascade, the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus’s premier a cappella ensemble, takes the intimate stage of the Alberta Rose Theatre for an evening of tight harmony, playful arrangements, and the kind of musical high-wire act only a cappella can deliver. It’s also a milestone moment: the ensemble debut of PGMC’s new Associate Artistic Director, Douglas Orofino, bringing fresh energy and a new artistic voice to one of the chorus’s most beloved traditions. Up close and unplugged — this is Cascade at its finest.
