Have You Ever Stopped to Wonder?

I don’t know about you, but have you ever stopped to wonder why things are the way they are?  I have this funny little list of things that I wonder about, and while I don’t think they will ever be resolved, it is nice to ponder these things every so often.  So here goes it with a few things I wonder about!

Why is my tennis game so bad?  I mean, I have been playing the game for over five years now and for a while I was actually getting pretty good at it….but now, it seems, not so much.  I could blame it on the fact that I moved to Portland and don’t get to play as much, but then again one wonders if a player peaks at some point and then it’s all downhill?  Just wondering!

Why does ice cream taste better some times and not others?  I remember a night when I was very young (23 years old) and I had my very first taste of Haagen Dazs ice cream.  It was a very warm summer night on Christopher Street in the Village.  I had had to wait forever to get that scoop of strawberry in a waffle cone.  I sat down on the sidewalk and reveled in that moment – don’t think I have ever had an experience as wonderful as that one.  I still love my ice cream – especially in the summer. Just something I wonder about.

Why do I love Broadway more than Classical?  I was raised around music my entire life.  I have been singing in choruses from the time I was in grade school, and it continues through today with PGMC.  I have sung in every genre of music, and yet I LOVE BROADWAY!  I know that my high school music teacher is rolling over on that one, but it is a fact of life.  Why does singing “Kansas City” give me a rush that I don’t experience when singing “Caro Mio Ben”?  Why do I fall asleep listening to “New World Symphony” but dance out the doors after a three-hour performance of Xanadu?  Just something I wonder about!

Why do dogs smile?  This is one I try not to lose sleep over, but, really, why do dogs smile?

Finally, why do I love working for the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus?  The job is stressful, demanding, filled with all kinds of “Danger, Will Robinson!” moments each and every day, yet, here I am on a Friday afternoon, putting together my newest blog post in the hopes that you – our loyal friends and family – will feel moved and ready to send in an increased annual donation (hint! hint!).   Probably never going to resolved this one but I wonder about it, too!
